"Selūne, also known as Our Lady of Silver and the Moonmaiden, is the goddess of the moon. She is also venerated in Faerūn as a goddess of light, stars, navigation, navigators, wanderers, questers, and goodly lycanthropes. Selūne was created from the primordial essence of the universe, along with her twin sister, Shar. Together, they created Chauntea and some other heavenly bodies and infused these areas with life. The two goddesses then fought over the fate of their creations. From these struggles emerged the original deities of magic, war, disease, murder, death, and others. "

Couple days back when I was browsing through some of my files I came across a pile of old sketches I had drawn years ago. Most of them were quite terrible but I found some that made me wonder why hadn't I finished them before. This piece is based on one of those sketches - I liked the pose and thought it was worth another try. I actually had much fun painting this lady that turned out to be Selūne in the end. :D I hope you like it!

Maiden, mother, and crone. The triple moon goddess. Not just a Celtic thing. Excellent depiction.

She kind of looks like the opposite to Nocturnal but still with the theme of moons like in the sepulchre.

In fact, in Forgotten Realms setting Selūne's sister and counterpart Shar ([link]) reminds me of Nocturnal even more. :D
