The Golden One by Isriana The Golden One by Isriana
In my latest journal I mentioned that I had a third Skyrim character in making, and I felt like painting a little portrait of her even though it's likely that I don't have time to play as her anytime soon. I'm still way too busy with Skaila/Bron/Brenna.
Anyway, here she is: my Altmer mage Laraniel. I figured that since I've been disliking Thalmor so much (not just my characters, I find them jerks personally, too) it would be interesting to try and play as a High Elf. She's actually my first elven character in any TES game. :P Oh, and she's blind, too. She lost her sight in a magical experiment gone wrong about a century before the events of Skyrim, but during those years she has learned to use her arcane senses to make up for the loss. Needless to say, she uses Clairvoyance spell a lot.

About the artwork itself... I started to put this together last night at LiveStream but I couldn't finish it at the time. Those of you who were watching will probably notice that lots of things happened since the last time you saw this painting. Basically I felt the face was a bit off, but I couldn't put my finger on it at the time. This morning I took another look at it with fresh eyes and noticed that the proportions were slightly wonky - the left side and the jaw especially - and I wasn't too happy with the hair either. What I did was that I spent another three and half hours repainting the face and hair (twice actually, as it turns out curls are not my area of expertise) until I was satisfied. The background caught a bit more detailing, too, and the colors are more natural now. :D I still think I could improve this a bit but... meh, maybe some other day when I have more time.
Anyway, thanks for watching and commenting - again!

Absolutely beautiful.  The lighting and colours are breath-taking!  You've inspired me to go and create an Aldmer as my second character, when considering which race to go with, and for those very same reasons.  They are the seeds of hate in Skyrim, so the dialogue and offhanded comments will be juicy!!  A stunner you are, Miss Laraniel.

This is absolutely beautiful! The warpaint you used is my favorite... I feel like it is almost symbolic of tears and, in your case, connected to the sorrow of losing her vision.
I love the concept of her being blind, but I have to ask a silly question: Do you play the game with the brightness setting turned all the way down, or attribute what you see on screen to be her arcane senses at work?
It'd be cool if there was a mod that would display only the outlines of everything in different colors or something to simulate what it could be like to be blind... but it'd probably take a TON of work.
Again, this is absolutely beautiful!
