It's Alive!

First of all, yeah, I'm still breathing. ^^; Sorry I dropped off the face of the Earth so unexpectedly. I've been swamped with university work and some real life stuff (the family is doing fine now - thanks for all the well wishes!), and thus I've had very little energy left for being productive in any other area of life.
I'm afraid I'll still be very busy during this spring, but now that my unscheduled hiatus is over I'm hoping to start getting things done again. My first priority are the commissions which have been waiting in line longer than I intended (thank you for your patience and sorry for the delay), and hopefully I get to finish some of my other unfinished artwork somewhere in between. One of these days I need to steal some time to go through my message box and take a look at all the comments that have been piling up while I was gone.
So, not much else is going on in my life at the moment other than struggling with annoying assignments and trying to get my thesis finished in time. Right now I have yet another deadline approaching so I better get back to work - got to love Mondays... :P Anyway, have a good week, everyone!

Hugs,
*Isriana

Life And Updates

Mon Feb 11, 2013, 12:13 AM
LastFM | Tumblr   | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream | Ask Me Anything | Commissions

Well, that was a fun weekend. On Friday my brother nearly got himself hospitalized when he lost the control of my dad's car on an icy motorway. The car was trashed but luckily my brother survived the situation without other injuries than being shaken up. Then yesterday we had to call an ambulance to pick up my grandpa because his blood pressure was so low that he couldn't even sit up without help. As if that wasn't bad enough all this happened a day before he was supposed to leave for a long vacation with my grandma to celebrate her 70th birthday. So the long planned trip to Cuba was cancelled (EDIT: We just heard my grandparents can't get any refund either. So essentially they lost three months pension worth money, and soon there will be medical bills to add to the situation. Lovely.), grandpa's still in the hospital and we don't know what's wrong with him yet. All that and the fact that I'm running late with both my thesis and my work suggest that this is going to be one hell of a week... :|
That said, especially during past month lots of people have asked when my commissions will open again. If my family/work/thesis situations get solved as I hope, the answer is later this week. If not, it will be sometime later (still during February, I hope). So those of you hoping to commission me, keep an eye out for updates in this journal: [link] I'm looking to open about 4 slots at the moment, and another 4-6 slots around March-April.
Oh, and everyone still waiting for answers in the comment challenge journal, I'll get back to you. It might be summer until I've answered you all, but I'm not going to give up... :XD: Anyway, I hope the rest of you have a good week. Take care you all!

Hugs,
*Isriana

Comment Challenge

LastFM | Tumblr   | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream | Ask Me Anything | Commissions

I joined this game by commenting on my friend :iconshoughad:'s (and much earlier :iconhelena-lou:'s) journal, and after some hesitating I decided to try this too...  Let's see if I'm actually able to answer to everyone.
(EDIT: Yup, one hour later and I'm screwed already. Oh my god. :XD:
EDIT 2: Guys, seriously, guys... Ok, just give me time. I won't give up! :shakefist:)

So, if you leave a comment, I'll try to do the following:

1.   Tell you something I learned about you by looking at your page for 10 seconds.

2.   Tell you a color you remind me of.

3.   Tell you what element I believe you belong to (water, fire, air, etc.).

4.   Tell you what OC(s) of yours is/are my favorite(s).

5.   Ask you a question, and you must answer.

6.   Tell you something I like about you.

7.   Give you a nickname.

8.   Tell you what am I doing right now.

9.   Tell you what food/flavor/smell you remind me of.

10.   Dare you to do one of these in your journal too, if you haven't already.

Kiriban Caught + Facts About Me Meme

LastFM | Tumblr   | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream | Ask Me Anything | Commissions

Hi everyone! I hope your new year has started off well. :D
I've noticed that my pageviews have quite recently crept over 90,000 (which is still kind of hard for me to believe - that's really is a lot :faint:). I have never held a kiriban before but upcoming 100,000 is such a huge number that I thought that I'd make an exception. So, if you look at my page one day and notice that you happen to be the 100,000th visitor, take a screenshot of it and send it to me via note - I'll think of something to reward you with. :la:
I think that's all for now. I'm busy writing my thesis again, and I'm also hoping to finish some comics after a while. Take care everyone and have a great week!

:new: EDIT: So the kiriban was caught by :iconansalagon: Congrats!

Oh my, over 100,000 pageviews.  :eyepopping:

Very merry Christmas to all of you! :holly: I hope you'll have wonderful holidays!

:snowflake: Lottery :snowflake:

EDIT: Wow, 89 participants! Thank you so much for your interest, all of you - this ended up being quite an exciting lottery. Anyway, 24 hours has passed and the results are in! Lucky numbers are 22, 16 and 79 so here are the three winners:

:icontwsfreedom2306: :icontarisha: :iconeasilyswayed:

Congrats to the lucky three and thanks for playing! :tighthug:

In the spirit of holidays I thought I'd organize a little lottery. Instructions should be simple enough: post a comment to this journal telling that you'd like to participate the lottery, and I'll give you a number. You'll have 24 hours (counting from the moment this journal was posted) to participate, and after that I'll use a random number generator to pick three winners. The winners will get a one-panel comic styled drawing made by me. The drawing will be of the character of your choice: one of your OCs or fan art, however you like it. Two characters per drawing are a maximum at this time.
Here are some examples of the type of artwork I'm willing to make for the winners:

Good luck! :santa: I'll announce the winners tomorrow after 24 hours has passed, and send you a note about the further details.

Dear Santa,

Since I'm taking part in #Drop-of-dreams Secret Santa Event please give me some nice picture (or literature) of my dearest Imperial thief, Bron Martes. As instructed by the group, here are some info and references to that mystery person who will get my name in the lottery. ;)

So, without further ado, meet Bron (and remember not to turn your back on him - he'll rob you blind):

Spring Break + 10 Unnecessary Things About Bron:bulletgreen:In My Life:bulletgreen:
Yay, my spring break just started! I'll still have to work and write few essays, but nevertheless it's nice that I don't have to drag myself to the university for a week. And I'm going to the Nightwish concert next Saturday! I've had those tickets waiting since November and finally I'm going to hear some Imaginaerum live. :la:
Other than that I've been more and less sick for past couple of weeks – hence the lask of comics and comments. Contest entries are pretty much the only thing I have bothered to put my energy into lately, and I've spent rest of my free time just sneezing, coughing and watching Criminal Minds. I still don't feel quite as healthy as I'd like to, but hopefully that's going to change soon.
Anyway, I'm going to finally include the meme :iconLweeling: tagged me to do a while back – so those of you who don't take interest in lives of my video game OCs can stop reading after this paragraph. :D Cheers to e

My Characters By Other Artists

Fri Nov 2, 2012, 1:40 AM
Just a little tribute to all those great people who have drawn or written about my characters for me.  I love each and every one of them - whether it has been a gift, a commission or an art trade. Thank you! :tighthug:

EDIT: There have been so many new additions to "My Characters" folder lately that I felt it was appropriate to finally update this entry. Take a look and show those artists some love!

Bron had heard it so many times that, practically immune to the sentence, he walked out with a satisfied smile and stretched in the sunlight, of course not even waiting for his follower to drag his sack full of garbage – pardon me, precious loot – out before mounting his horse, ready to head back to Riften.
"Why are we… nngh… taking all this… wait for me!" Marcurio was

Everything On Hold

Fri Oct 5, 2012, 7:09 AM
LastFM | Tumblr  | Tumblr Photo Account | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream | Ask Me Anything

Ok, so my computer is apparently dying on me. I've been getting blue screens of death all week, and I've filled my external hard drives with hundreds giga bytes worth backup copies - just in case this thing decides to kick the bucket for good. My dad thought that there might be something wrong with the motherboard and suggested that I'd boot the whole thing, but aaaagh I_so_don't_want_to... :dead: All that stuff I've done during past four years is on my PC - and while I am able to make copies of my artwork, music, savegames and text files I will lose every installed program, every game, every frigging mod I've downloaded and lots of other stuff like that. Last time when my laptop's graphic card fried and I had to initialize the whole thing it took me months to get everything in order again.
Anyway, the actual news is that while I can still use my PC to write, browse websites and apparently even lauch some games without too many complications, the one program that doesn't want to play along is my Photoshop. I've tried to work on commissions but it's not quite that easy when after five minutes everything just freezes and the whole system shuts down. So, until I've solved this issue, everything will be on hold - just please bear with me and be patient, I'm working on finding a solution as fast as I can. :surrender:

Hugs,

Finally

Thu Sep 6, 2012, 3:48 AM
LastFM | Tumblr  | Tumblr Photo Account | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream | Ask Me Anything

I'm finally finished with my work overload - couple days late from the deadline but at this point I don't even care. :faint: Good news is that I can finally continue working on all those commissions I've had waiting in line, and hopefully draw some personal artwork, too... and answer those bajillion comments I've got while I was absent. (Thanks for everyone who recommended fantasy novels in my latest poll, by the way! So far it would seem that I have found enough literature to sate my reading appetite for the next decade or so... :D)

Speaking of books, my semester started this week so I'm back at the University worrying how many academic credits I manage to scrape together, and sulking over the fact that all these essays and exams will most likely devour most of my spare time during months to come. I must say that my first day at the Uni wasn't one of my most stellar moments. Basically what I did was that I signed in for a university course and attended the first lecture like a good little student. As the professor began speaking I got this weird déjà vu feeling, and suddenly I realized that I had already done the course last year. I even passed it with an A. Well done me… How do you forget something like that? It was even the same professor who held the course last year so I pretty much spent two hours cowering in the back of the class, trying to look occupied and hoping she wouldn't recognize me, lol. And now I have to find some other course to make up for it... *sigh*

Other than dealing with studies and work, my grandma took me to ballet yesterday to see Romeo and Juliet. It was a lovely performance - as a literature student I have obviously read that Shakespeare play couple of times, but I have actually never seen it on the stage before. As a little bonus the guy who played Tybalt looked like he could have been Bron's long lost twin brother... who was wearing black slinky tights and waving a rapier. :XD: In other words, I had a good time.
Anyway, I'm off to my next class now. Hopefully I get to post something new soon - so many ideas, so little time. Have a great week everyone!

Hugs,
*Isriana

Still A Work Overload

LastFM | Tumblr  | Tumblr Photo Account | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream

Auuugh, I really had hoped I was able to do something non-work-related this weekend, but since I'm kind of late from my deadline I guess I'll just write instead - and edit, and write some more, and edit again.
I woke up at 2 a.m. today just to get everything done, but I'm still drowning into all these articles I'm supposed to write, and I'm so tired I manage to stay awake only because of overuse of eyedrops... and I'm beginning to wonder whether it is possible to get a caffeine poisoning. :nirvana: Maybe one day I will learn to organize and not procrastinate... *facedesk*
Though I seriously doubt it...

Also, my semester at Uni starts on Monday so I get to jump from being a stressed freelance journalist to being a stressed literature student once again. Because next Wednesday my professor is going to ask me what my master's thesis will be about. Oh boy. [Insert Dramatic Chipmunk sound here]

I'm not sure if people are interested in such things, but I've thought about doing this for a while now...
Pretty much every day I get  questions about all kinds of subjects, and I thought it might be useful to put all of them into one place so others can see the answers, too. So, if you have any question about my art, techniques, characters, games, me or anything else you'd like to know feel free to drop a comment to this journal - I'll add it up here and try to answer the best I can. Bear in mind, I might ignore too personal questions, but other than that: fire away!
Now let's see how this is going to work... :D

About art:

:bulletblue: What is your favorite detail to draw (ex, hands, lips, fabric, trees...)?

Eyes, most definitely. Though I really enjoy painting hair, too.

:bulletblue: How long does an artwork like Submit Yourself to the Taint generally take you?

That is a hard question to answer since I hardly ever finish anything at one sitting or even in course of few days. I may draw a sketch and pick it up two months later, and then maybe finish it (or not) so it's difficult to be very specific. For that particular artwork in question, though... I don't know, maybe something between 10-20 hours? I swear, one of these days I'm going to clock myself so I could even once tell you accurately how long it takes to paint something like that...

:bulletblue: You answered how long a full painting takes you to draw, but how about a comic strip?

Well, about same answer as above... :XD: I hardly ever observe how much time I spend, and in comics it really depends on the amount of panels. One panel thing like this [link] I may be able to finish in four hours or so, but something as long as this [link] or this [link] ...I dont even know. :faint:

:bulletblue: Was it hard to learn digital art?

Yeah, it has been challenging and it still is. In digital art you'll have to learn lots of things that every visual artist has to know regardless of media: general understanding of anatomy, lights and shades, perspective, proportions and so on. Another challenge in digital art is to learn how to use your equipment effectively - basically to know what tools to use, plus how and when to use them. I've been working with Photoshop for years and I swear I still don't know even half of things you can do with that program. I learn something new every day.

:bulletblue: Do you have any advice for young artists?

Study your subjects and keep practicing even those simple things that seem redundant and tedious. Even if it doesn't feel like it at the time, every line you'll draw now will pay off later, trust me. Also, don't give up on yourself drawing or painting if it's something you enjoy - no matter what anyone says or even if you feel that you fail at everything. I remember those times when I felt that I never wanted to draw anything again because everyone else was more talented or better than I was. Now I'm glad that in the end I always picked up the pencil I had earlier thrown across the room. Oh wow, I sound so cheesy now... My bottomline is: practice, and after you think you've practiced enough, practice a bit more.

:bulletblue: How to do a good picture without using a tablet?

It is a matter of practice as well. Even tablet is not a magical tool that suddenly makes everything easier - on the contrary, when I was really frustrated by my Wacom when I got it, and for first two years I felt like a toddler learning to draw even though I could use traditional tools without problem. Same applies to other tools. I know there are people who only paint using a mouse, and they can do wonderful stuff with it. Whatever tools you decide to use, make sure they work well enough and then practice until using them feels so natural you don't even have to think about it. That's the only piece of advice I can think of at any rate.

About me and things I like/dislike:

:bulletblue: Do you write stories or only draw comics and snippets?

I've been writing stories of my own for ten years now - all of it in Finnish, though. About 90% of them are fantasy themed stories which take place in a fictional world I've created myself. The other 10% consists of fan fiction and such.

:bulletblue: I've noticed that you like American Crime dramas. Are there no good crime shows in Finland?

If by that you mean the ones that have the kind of actors, screenwriters, budget and resources Jerry Bruckheimer has, no we don't. :D There are many Finnish crime series and some of them are even pretty popular, but personally I don't watch any Finnish tv-series/movies at all. For some reason I end up facepalming and groaning every five minutes very time I try to watch them.

:bulletblue: I've never met a person who didn't like music. Do you think music has affected you as an artist?

Yes, it has - thematically, mostly. I draw much inspiration from the music I love and from the songs that are meaningful for me. Even most of my fan art is based on some song or piece of lyrics I've had in mind while planning the concept - even though it doen't necessarily show in the final artwork. The influence of music is even more evident in my other dA account where I've posted a whole range of artwork which illustrate some of my favorite songs.

:bulletblue: What do you like, and dislike about DeviantART?

I've been following this site for 5-6 years now, and all in all I've really enjoyed my stay. I like how I can get exposure for my art, get tips and share something I enjoy with others that are equally enthousiastic. I also like how easy it is to meet and get to know people who share the same interests - folks in Neverwinter Nights 2 and Skyrim groups for example are simply awesome.
What I dislike then... Well, there are not that many things I'd complain about, but one thing which frustrates me is how people who come here don't seem to understand what this site is for. As far as I'm concerned, it's not ok to grab some cool or funny pic from Google search and post it here. There are many other websites for that, and in my opinion dA should be primarily a place for your own creations.

:bulletblue: You mentioned you have other dA accounts. Would you please tell us your other names?

My other accounts are *Iribel where I have my photomanipulations and *Eirian-stock where I provide stock images for other artists to use (I do both modeling and stock photography). Feel free to take a look!

:bulletblue: What fantasy books have you read? You mentioned Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter but what else?

Are you sure you want to ask that? I'm a literature student, you know... :XD: I've probably read half of fantasy books our local library has to offer, but to mention some of my favorites... Every book in A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin, The Farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb, both Songs & Swords and Starlight and Shadows series by Elaine Cunningham,  The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley, pretty much everything written by David Eddings and Terry Pratchett, Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books, The Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin, The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix, Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher books, some works of Diana Wynne Jones, Katharine Kerr, Guy Gavriel Gay, Philip Pullman... I'm not kidding, I could go on all day. I'll stop now, though, for all of our sakes, lol.

:bulletblue: You mentioned you just got a bow recently. Are you a new archer?

More like would-be archer. I'd love to practice archery in a club and get real instruction and all, but it's pretty expensive and the closest club is quite a drive away from my home. So, for now I'll settle for playing Robin Hood in the backyard, and trying not to cause any serious harm to myself or my relatives while doing so.

:bulletblue: IRL, what's it like where you live right now? My county (in USA) is still in a perpetual drought/heat wave combo.

Well, it seems the short Finnish summer is coming to an end. Days are still relatively warm 14-19°C (57-66°F), kind of gray and cloudy, and with quite a bit of rain. The summer wasn't that warm this year, anyway, but I was still kind of shocked when I went for a night stroll few days ago and the temperature was barely 3°C (37°F). Damn autumn, why must you always come so soon...?

:bulletblue: I'm just curious about Finnish Mythology; is it the same as Norse Mythology (the Aesir, the Giants, Valhalla, Midgard, Nifilheim, etc. etc. etc.), or is it something completely different?

It is something different. Both Norse (Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden) and Baltic/Slavic (Estonia, Russia etc.) Mythology have influenced Finnish one so there are some similar features. There are many thematic similarities (e.g. Finnish god of sky and thunder, Ukko, resembles both Norse god Thor and Baltic god Perkūnas) but Finnish Mythology (and language and culture) has a different origin from other Nordic countries. The mythology survived within an oral tradition of mythical poem-singing and folklore, but since it was originally documented by bishops and such (Christian people in general since they were pretty much the only ones who could read and write) the influence of Chriastianity is pretty strong in these accounts. For those who'd like to know more about Finnish myths, tales, deities and such, this page might interest you :pointr: [link] Also, Wikipedia is more or less accurate source. ;)

About my characters:

:bulletblue: How many characters in Skyrim do you have?

Currently two, Bron Martes and Skaila Skaran. I do plan to create a mage character at some point, however.

:bulletblue: You mentioned a mage character (in the making) can you tell us more?

Well, I can tell that she's a female Altmer who has already been around during the events of Morrowind and Oblivion. EDIT: In fact, I went ahead and painted a little portrait of her :pointr: [link]

:bulletblue: So what are Bron's and Skaila's levels?

Bron is currently level 40 (almost 41), and Skaila is level 24.

:bulletblue: What can you tell us about your other Skyrim character (Skaila)?

Skaila is a young Nord warrior who has spent most of his life in her tiny home village in Winterhold. She hasn't ventured south until during past few years and she has been very eager to see all sorts of places and people around Skyrim. Skaila is a Stormcloak, like her father, but unlike most of them she tries to keep an open mind when it comes to other races. She dislikes Thalmor with passion, though. More info about her can be found here :pointr: [link]

:bulletblue: About Dawnguard. Out of your characters, who is the vampire and who is the vampire hunter?

Skaila is a vampire hunter. Bron is still focused on shooting and looting random vampires he comes across - even I'm not sure yet whether he should join Dawnguard, vampires or none of the above... :D

:bulletblue: Reedus saw Skaila at Fort Dawnguard the other day! He wanted to ask how shes liking her new home in the Dawnguard.

Skaila has enjoyed her stay a lot. Although she still spends a lot of time in her Whiterun home, she stays in Fort Dawnguard whenever she travels around The Rift which is actually quite often these days. She enjoyes chatting with other vampire hunters regularly and she tries to catch up with Agmaer every time she visits the fort - and she loves spending time with the huskies!

:bulletblue: Pop quiz: how do you think my OC (of myself) would react to meeting Bron?

Well, it's hard to be that specific, but let's say you'd meet him at The Bee and Barb. He'd most likely to be all friendly and suave, maybe buy you a drink and have a little small talk. He would appear innocuous and benevolently curious about your stay in Riften so if you're not extra paranoid type he'd probably find out pretty soon where and how long you are going to stay (and for some reason you might find yourself telling him all sorts of menial details you certainly didn't plan to). Soon enough he'd excuse himself, wish you all the best and recommend you try some Black-Briar mead. Then at some point you'd reach for your purse and find your pockets surprisingly lightened... and your room remarkably emptier as you finally make your way back to your accommodation. ;P Whether you'd fall for that or not, I can't tell - but that's something he'd definitely try to pull off.

:bulletblue: I noticed Bron and Brenna have the same last name, how exactly are they related?

Bron is a lineal descendant of Brenna, though since there are about 200 years and several generations between them one can argue how much they actually resemble each other. At least they share the same taste when it comes to career.

About games:

:bulletblue: What would be your favourite quest within The Elder Scrolls series & why?

Aww, but there are so many! Not to mention I've barely got started with either Oblivion or Morrowind. Oh well, based on quests what I have done so far Skyrim's A Night To Remember is something that I really loved just because of all that absurdity. The fact that I saw the movie Hangover some time before I played the quest just made it even better... :XD:

:bulletblue: If you had the motivation to make a mod that added ONE new quest, along with a major OC of yours, what would it be like?

I would probably add Skaila Skaran as a NPC, and make a quest where she would try to find out what happened to her family while she was in the south doing mercenary work. That would include infiltrating Thalmor embassy, chasing down an artifact and finally the return to Winterhold. Well, something like that, anyway. :D

:bulletblue: Do you like High Elves? (and why/why not?)

Can't really say yes or no since every race is consisted of individuals who are different by default. If the High Elf in question is generally nice, sure I like him/her. If they are pricks, however, not so much... In general I could say that I have nothing against any race in The Elder Scrolls universe, it's always individuals I have problem with.

:bulletblue: What do you prefer to play as in Dragon Age: Origins?

That's actually a tough question, but I think either a Warrior (specializations Champion/Berserker) or a Mage (specializations Arcane Warrior/Spirit Healer) are my favorites.

:bulletblue: Did you have a favorite origin when you played Dragon Age: Origins?

The very first origin I chose was Human Noble, and I think it still is the dearest to me even though I've tried all of them. I found that origin story really captivating (and heartbreaking), and I think that was the reason why I got sucked into the game world so completely - I was genuinely sorry for my Warden's family, I really worried what happened to her brother, and I found it utterly satisfying when I finally managed to hunt down Arl Howe. Not to mention I got to marry Alistair in the end - so much win. :giggle:

:bulletblue: Did you ever try to play Jade Dynasty?

Nope, so far I haven't. I've never been a big fan of MMORPG's but that may change now that I've bought a decent headphones with a microphone, and I can bribe/intimidate/persuade my brother to team up with me.

:bulletblue: So we all know you like the computer RPGs but have you ever played pen and paper RPG? Like REAL Dungeons and Dragons?

Sadly, no I haven't. I'd love to try that or some tabletop RPG's, but there really aren't that many people who share my interest in such things where I live.

Random:

:bulletblue: The Zombie Apocalypse has fallen. Name your A) Projectile weapon of choice B) Your Melee weapon of choice and C) what you would pack in a standard size suitcase.

A) My brand new bow and arrows I bought from a medieval festival
B) Axe, mattock or something similar sturdy thing picked from our garden shed
C) Clothes, medicine, canned food, coffee, flashlight and lots of batteries, stack of paper, handful of pencils, and The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien (in case of emergency, it can be used as a melee or projectile weapon, too ;P)

:bulletblue: If you could aquire a super power what would it be?

An ability to manipulate time, definitely - more precisely, an ability to literally "seize the moment" whenever I like so I'd have time to do all the things I want. :D

:bulletblue: If you had a time machine that could only be used once would you go into the past or the future (or sell it to the highest bidder)?

I would use it and go back in time, probably to Middle-Ages, Renaissance or something similar. I would take some antibiotics and few other usables with me, though.

:bulletblue: I have four questions: 1) If you were suddenly magically teleported to a fantasy world, which one will it be? 2) If you are giving a choice, which race would you be in that world or staying the same person? 3) What type of class or profession would you go after? 4) What is the first thing that you do in that world and later on?

1) Aww, so many wonderful worlds where I'd gladly be... I'm going to say Faerûn, just for the diversity and awesomeness of that world.
2) I'm kind of tied between human and elf - I wouldn't mind staying as myself, but it would be wonderful to see Evermeet, too.
3) Some kind of mage/bard/scholar/artist mixture... :XD:
4) I'd head to Neverwinter or Waterdeep, depending on which one happens to be closer, goggling at everything like a complete tourist and probably get myself pickpocketed/robbed/otherwise tricked the very moment I take a step inside the city walls. Later on, when I'd manage to earn a little money and get equipment, I'd definitely go travel around the world and see all those places I've been reading about.

:bulletblue: I read somewhere on here that you had stopped reading Harry Potter at the 4th book. Have you watched movies past that point, or have you avoided the series entirely? Bonus question: Do you think you'll ever pick them up again?

No, I haven't seen the movies either since I always read the book before watching any other adaptations. And yes, I do plan to read the rest of the series and watch the movies at some point. It is going to be pretty hard for me, though, since I've grown super attached to the characters and Hogwarts in general, and I know some serious shit will go down as the end draws near. Honestly, I'm a little scared. :XD:

:bulletblue: Did you know that Norway, Finland, Sweden, and the Netherlands are considered the Nordic lands? Vikings = Nords. Who woulda thought?

Yes. That makes me almost a real-life variant of TES Nord, and I'm happy about it.

:bulletblue: What's your opinion on Pokémon?

I was a fan of the tv series back when it first aired in Finland 1999. I even collected cards and all that stuff even though I never played the games (video games began to appeal to me only several years later and I have no experence of card games whatsoever). I lost track of whole Pokémon fandom at some point, and now only things I know about it is what my 7- and 8-year-old little brothers tell me.

:bulletblue: Have you ever considered making a painting of mad skeever guy, Hamelyn and, if the answer is no, I'd like to ask why.

As a matter of fact, I have not. :XD: I have no idea how I could have forgotten the existence of this profound and utterly essential character in the game, but to my shame I must admit that such is the case. Or maybe it's just a defence mechanism, and I've chosen to repress the memory of our encounter because of those embarrassingly numerous times he got Bron killed. Skeever King, you have traumatized me for life.

:bulletblue: If you suddenly realised you are on fire, what would you do? If you suddenly realised I was on fire, what would you do?

Two questions, same answer: scream like a baby hyena and try to find water.

Thanks for asking, guys! I hope my answers were even somewhat satisfying. :P

About Work, Art and Medieval Festival

Sun Aug 19, 2012, 1:38 PM
LastFM | Tumblr  | Tumblr Photo Account | Twitter | YouTube | LiveStream

:bulletblue:In My Life:bulletblue:

Hi everyone! I hope you've been doing well. :D
It has been an eventful week, mostly filled with work and lots of drawing (as you may have noticed, my gallery has been flooding with new stuff recently). Next week I'll have an exam and some more journalist work to keep me occupied so that'll probably slow things down a little. I have so much ideas for Skyrim and Oblivion art that I feel like I'm going to burst – if only there was more time...
About other things I've done recently... Yesterday I attended long anticipated medieval festival in Hämeenlinna with my boyfriend and my best friend. It was even more awesome than I expected – the weather was wonderful, the setting was spot-on, tournaments and other shows were great, and all of us had a good time. Me and my best friend were appropriately dressed so lots of people asked us to stop so they could take photos (which we found pretty fun). We also got plenty of nice photos of our own - here are some lovely shots from my bf's collection:

Also, I finally fullfilled one of my long-standing dreams and bought a bow, a quiver and a handful of arrows! :la: I drooled over those bows already last year when I attended the same festival, but at the time I thought they were a bit too pricey for me – and then I spent the next year regretting that I didn't buy one. Sure, it might have cost me the money I was supposed to use for a new transit pass but honestly, I'm not even sorry. I'm a ridiculously happy person right now... :XD: I mean, just look at it: [link] I'm fairly sure that if I'll ever do another cosplay photo shoot this bow is going to get featured a lot.
So yeah, that's about it for now. I hope I'll have time to finish couple more comics and paintings in near future, and maybe do another LiveStream session sometime soon. Take care and have a great upcoming week!

Hugs and love,
*Isriana

Another Journal Tag

Sat Aug 11, 2012, 2:20 PM

For those of you who actually read these and take interest

Rules:
1. You must post these rules.
2. Each person must post 11 facts about themselves in their journal.
3. Then answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create eleven new questions for the people you tag to answer.
4. You have to choose 11 people to tag and post their icons on your journal.
5. Go to their page and tell them you have tagged him/her.
6. No tag backs.
7. No stuff in the tagging section about "you are tagged if you are reading this." You legitimately (AKA, really, truly, with all honesty) have to tag 11 some people.

Once upon a time I was tagged by :iconkwenos:
So behold, here are some random facts about me you totally did not need to know. Feel free to skip, I won't hold it against you. :XD:

11 facts about me:

:bulletblue: 1. I never played video games until my brother bought me Neverwinter Nights 2 for my 17th birthday.

:bulletblue: 2. I wrote my BA thesis about how a certain Finnish fantasy novel used Nordic myths and mythology as an inspiration for the setting and the storyline, and how this material helped building the fictional secondary world. Interesting to no one except myself. My professor gave me A, though. :D

:bulletblue: 3. I've been a Nightwish fan since 2002 when I bought Century Child. I have all their albums, probably twice the amount of band shirts and posters, and I know pretty much all of their lyrics by heart.

:bulletblue: 4. My hands and feet are tiny. Really, I could wear my 9-year-old brother's sneakers should I want to.

:bulletblue: 5. I'm a major procastinator. If something can be postponed I most likely will. No errand is too menial for me to avoid until the very last minute! Imagine how much fun I have with deadlines.

:bulletblue: 6. I love Harry Potter series, but I haven't been able to bring myself to read the fifth book because somebody told me that Sirius Black is going to die in it. I've read the first four books like twenty times, but The Order of the Phoenix (and everything published after that) has been sitting in my bookshelf for eight years, untouchable. I know it's crazy but I just caaan't. :cries:

:bulletblue: 7. The first household appliance I learned to use was a coffee machine, at the age of five. I've been drinking coffee ever since.

:bulletblue: 8. I absolutely suck at remembering faces. I often have hard time recognizing even those people I know I have talked to dozens of times.

:bulletblue: 9. My favorite colors are green and blue.

:bulletblue: 10.  I don't understand sports – and I especially don't understand watching sports from the tv. The rest of the world has been raving about the Olympics for past two weeks, and I don't even know whether my country has won any medals. Nor do I care.

:bulletblue: 11. I don't read newspapers... yet I'm a freelance journalist.

11 questions by :iconkwenos:

1. Paper or e-book? Why?

Paper, because of... reasons. :dummy: I have yet to see a proper device for reading e-books (ergo, something I would bother to use), and even if I did I think I'd still go for paper version. I'm a literature student and I like it traditional.

2. What is the first comic you remember having read?

I'm fairly sure it was either Asterix or Lucky Luke. I still love them... :D

3. What can be seen from your window? Describe it, please.

Right now? Total, unpenetrable darkness since it's midnight here, and the closest streetlight is several miles away. But, if it were day I'd see the inner court of our house with lots of green stuff. More accurately, this: :pointr: [link]

4. Let us know about your skillz!1!!!1! What are you good at?

Drawing, writing, reading, spending my time doing all kinds of unproductive things... My superpower is that I'm never bored. Ever. I haven't even finished my degree yet, and I already wish I was retired so I could use my time the way I want. :P

5. You would squee and swoon like a fangirl if...

Ah, where to begin... :giggle: Pretty much anything including Jack Sparrow/Aragorn/Boromir/Dr. House/Spencer Reid/Casavir/Alistair/Zevran/Carth/Kaidan/Garrus/half of Skyrim cast. I'm a lost cause, I know.

6. Grab the first book you have at hand. Enlighten us!

Sapphire Rose by David Eddings from The Elenium series. I am re-reading it for the first time since 2003.

7. How many languages can you speak?

Finnish (obviously), English, and a bit Swedish and French.

8. Have you ever been outside of your country? Where?

Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Sweden, Netherlands, Ireland, Austria, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Portugal, Malta, Scotland... Yeah, I've gotten around. :XD:

9. Tell us about your favourite footwear! We will listen, we promise!

Comfortable. Loose enough so I don't have to bend over to tie shoelaces. Those are my only requirements for any shoe.

10. Have you ever been at the opera?

Yeah, few times. So far my favorites have been Carmen opera and La Sylphide ballet.

11. In which date was held the battle of Cannae? No, just kidding. Would you like to know your time of death, were it possible? (Btw, it's August 2nd, 216 BC; the battle, not the death time)

I probably wouldn't, I think it would just wreck my nerves.

So... tagging time?

Nope. If you are still reading this and want to do the tag, feel free to drop me a link in the comments!

Oblivion It Is (and Dawnguard, too)

Thu Aug 2, 2012, 4:24 AM
Thank you everyone for voting in my most recent poll "Besides Skyrim fan art, what would you like to see next?" :pointr: [link] All five games I mentioned got plenty of votes, but in the end The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion beat Dragon Age: Origins by five votes - so that is where I shall begin. :eager: You can expect to see the first  adventures of another Imperial thief during weeks to come - besides Skyrim stuff, of course.

Now, I don't have Shivering Isles or Knights of the Nine yet, but I'm working on acquiring those expansions as well. Meanwhile, I'd really appriciate if those of you who play Oblivion modded could help me out a bit. My issue is simply that half of the mods (especially armors, shops, weapons and such) I'm trying to install never appear in the game. I have my game patched to Official 12416 Patch, and I have Unofficial Oblivion Patch as well. All the stuff in 'Textures', 'Meshes' etc. folders seems to be in order, mods I've tried have been highest in the load order, I find  .esp-files where they should be, and I have boxes checked both in my mod manager as well as in launcher data files. Long story short: everything seem to install correctly, but nothing happens in the game. Any ideas?
It's not like I can't play the game without mods, but since I do have a PC version it feels a bit like wasting the opportunity if I can't install most of them...  Oblivion has been out for quite some time after all, and there are some pretty sweet mods out there which I'd love to try. So yeah, if anyone figures out where I might have messed up, let me know!

EDIT: Ok, so Oblivion Game of the Year edition was on Steam sale last weekend. After some indecisive grumbling and hair pulling my resolve kind of caved in, and I went and purchased it. :XD:
As it happens, it wasn't all in vain - I now have both Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions, and somehow the combination of GotY and OBSE managed to fix all previously mentioned mod issues! I still don't know if the problem was me lacking either Script Extender or some expansion pack or both, but at least everything works now! :excited: Thank you everyone for suggesting ways to fix the issue - I appreciate it very much!
Also, I recently downloaded Dawnguard DLC so there is a strong chance you are going to see some vampire/VanHelsing stuff sometime soon... :pc:

Hugs and love,

Skaila Tag

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 29, 2012, 2:15 PM

Tagged by :iconcoupleofkooks:

The guidelines are easy.
1. Pick one Dragonborn character you have (It can be your favourite Dragonborn, your newest one or the one you had one of the weirdest playthrough with, but just one)
2. Answer a couple of questions, you can add some questions afterwards.
3. Pick (or not) two or three people and tag them.

Since last time I told you about my Imperial thief Bron [link] I guess it's just fair that now is Skaila's turn. So here is some info about her... ;)

Tell us a little bit about your Dragonborn. Who they are, what race they are, you know, the basic stuff.

Name: Skaila Skaran
Age: 23
Race: Nord
Birthplace: Town of Winterhold (what's left of it anyway)
Weapon of choice: Axe of Whiterun
Deity of choice: Talos
Stone of choice: Lover Stone
Follower of choice: Lydia/Erik the Slayer

Here is Skaila quite a bit younger, with some additional info about her background in the description:

What type of person are they? Will they help the helpless, or will they stab someone in the back after getting paid?

Skaila is your average nice girl who tries to help people whenever she can. Being born and raised in Winterhold, however, has made her a bit wary of magic users (since the public opinion in town is that the Great Collapse was initially College mages' fault). During past few years she has done some traveling as a mercenary, so she has seen the world a bit and thus expanded her views of different people.

Where does your Dragonborn live? Have they got a nice little house in Whiterun, or the ridiculously expensive manor in Solitude?

So far she has a house in Whiterun as well as her family's old house in Winterhold. About the latter one – big thanks goes to this lovely "Winterhold Adobe" mod :pointr: [link] Doesn't it look just cozy?

Does your Dragonborn make their own equipment (weapons/armour/potions/enchantments) or are they utterly lazy and keep looting everything they use?

Skaila is a decent blacksmith, and a little bit weaker in both enchanting and alchemy.  Her mother was a bit of an alchemist, though, so she is capable of brewing a decent healing potion and few other usables.

Did your Dragonborn get married and who was the lucky person? And how did they find married life?

She's not married yet. Skaila is rather fond of Erik the Slayer, but alas, seems that he's not marriable. So time (and whatever mods I can find) will tell... ;)

Do you have any favourite Shouts? And any favourite moments using a Shout?

Fire / Frost Breath have proven to be most useful so far.

It happened to us all, the Dragonborn got an early ticket to Sovengarde. So whats the dumbest way you got yours killed?

All those times when I got killed by a dragon/spriggan/wispmother/flame atronach just because I went "oooh, looks epic" in the middle of the battle, and was too busy taking screenshots. :XD: But them monsters just look too cool!

Almost done. Did you join any groups? Or did you just run around doing your own thing?

Companions and Bard's College. And yes - lots and lots of aimless running, too. I have barely got started with either of factions... :D

Imperial or Stormcloaks? Your thoughts?

Stormcloaks. Most of Winterhold is sympathetic to Ulfric's cause, and Skaila's father joined Stormcloaks almost instantly when the order was founded. Also, Talos being the deity of choice for my Nord girl and her family, it wasn't difficult to decide where her loyalties lie.

(Other than that I kind of understand both sides of the war. I feel that the Empire is not what it used to be after last of the Septims died, and I get why Stormcloaks would be unhappy with the decisions made after the Great War (as necessary as they may have been) and feel that they would do better on their own. On the other hand, I get why the Legion is so eager to suppress the rebellion even with drastic means - if the Empire crumbles and falls into separate squabbling regions it just helps Thalmor on their mission to conquer all of Tamriel. So yeah, I really don't know which side I'm personally on... :XD:)

Commissions Are Closed

Sun Jul 22, 2012, 5:25 AM

I still have one previous commission to finish but since I promised the end of the week, here it comes... :D I'll open 5 slots for now, and another 4-6 slots around March-April. Please read the instructions below carefully and then note me with a title "Commission" if you're interested.

General Guidelines:

:bulletblue: Please make sure you read following guidelines carefully before commissioning me or asking further questions. Note that I have right to change these guidelines whenever I find it necessary.

:bulletblue: I have a right choose what kind of commissions I accept. I have also a right to decline a commission before the payment has been made.

:bulletblue: Commissioner may suggest changes during the painting/drawing process. I do my best to fullfill the given requirements, but if you're requesting something way beyond my skill level I have a right to decline.

:bulletblue: I choose my own schedule and pace. I'm not a full-time artist, but an university student with a part-time job which means my time for artistic endeavors is limited. While paid commission is obviously a priority, please do not rush me. So if you want something finished within 1-2 days, I suggest you commission someone else - I rarely have time to work that fast.

:bulletblue: As a basic rule, commissions are for your personal, non-commercial use unless stated otherwise. You may print them, use them as avatars or such, but please do not sell them or claim the creations as your own. Also, when posting on other websites a credit is much appreciated.

:bulletblue: Want to have a painting or drawing for commercial purposes (album/book cover etc.)? Send me note and we can discuss the price, schedule and other details.

Commissions That I'm Likely To Accept:

:bulletgreen: Digital drawings/paintings, mixed digital media and photomanipulations
:bulletgreen: Fantasy/dark/sci fi related art
:bulletgreen: Fanart from video games/movies/tv series etc.
:bulletgreen: Your original characters
:bulletgreen: Comics (using my own style, I won't try to copy Marvel's or someone else's way to draw comics)
:bulletgreen: Humans, animals, anthro, creatures etc.
:bulletgreen: Themes such as violence, horror and romance as long as they're not overtly explicit and distasteful.
:bulletgreen: Landscapes, buildings, settings etc.

Commissions That I Won't Accept:

:bulletred: Traditional media
:bulletred: Realistic (as in non-fantasy) drawings or paintings
:bulletred: Anime or manga

How To Commission Me:

:bulletgreen:#1 Send me a note preferably with a title "Commission" so I know to take a look at it asap. Please include detailed description of what you would like to have, and I will answer you whether I'll accept the commission or not.

:bulletgreen:#2 If you want me to draw your character etc. please include some references, and other necessary information about them.

:bulletgreen:#3 Once we are in agreement about the scedule, price and other things, I will begin sketching. I will send you a rough example image sometime during the early stages of painting/drawing process. During this time you'll have a chance to suggest changes and additional ideas – I will do my best to fullfill them.

:bulletgreen:#4 After we've discussed the details and agreed on possible changes needed, I'm waiting for your payment. I won't begin the final stages of painting until the transaction is complete.

:bulletgreen: #5 Once I'm finished, I will send you a full size high resolution file. You can still suggest some minor changes and additions, but I will not re-do the entire image. All major changes should be addressed to me during stage #3.

:bulletgreen: #6 After this, I might ask you if I can post the artwork to my DeviantART account, and ask for some additional info for artist's description. If you don't want me to publish the commission, just let me know (preferably sooner than later) and I won't press the issue.

Journal History

As someone new to sci-fi, what tv shows should I watch? I've already seen Doctor Who and Firefly (and I absolutely loved both of them) but as far as other shows are concerned I'd love to get some recommendations. Thoughts?
